Virtual Console Dreaming: Another October 2024 Update

Surprise!

Turok 2 and Shadowman are coming to Nintendo Switch Online. Keep in mind you’ll need to download the app reserved for M rated games in order to access them (off the top of my head, I think Perfect Dark and Turok are the only other titles available, so far). I accept that removing the “grown up” games from the rest of the library is in line with their family friendly reputation, but creating a second launcher was still a very Nintendo move.

I played Turok 2: Seeds of Evil (the Nightdive remaster) for the first time in January. It’s a very impressive game that is made equally frustrating by its confusing level design. I also wrote thousands of words about it that I’ll probably never publish. It’s the one with the Cerebral Bore.

Shadowman, on the other hand,  is an early attempt at a 3D Metroidvania. I remember cracking an issue of Nintendo Power at age 11 and being entranced about the possibility of playing an adventure stuffed with serial killers and voodoo on a Nintendo console. Both are worth at least trying if you’re even a little bit curious (and both are available NOW for Expansion Pack subscribers).

In my ongoing effort to convince Nintendo to continue to bless us, here is my current wishlist for their service. Hopefully we’ll be able to cross a couple off in the next update–but I’m not holding my breath. That’s where the “wishing” comes in, otherwise it would just be a list:

SNES

Pocky and Rocky 2

Secret of Mana

GBC/GBA

Mother 3

Pokemon Pinball

Nintendo 64

Beetle Adventure Racing

Bomberman 64

Bomberman 64: The Second Attack!

Bomberman Hero

Castlevania 64/Legacy of Darkness

Goemon’s Great Adventure

Mischief Makers

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon

Quest 64

Snowboard Kids

Snowboard Kids 2

Good luck this week. I hope Monday wasn’t terribly traumatic.
