Virtual Console Dreaming: November Donkey Kong Land Update

It’s Friday’s Eve and Nintendo has surprised us by adding another title to the Game Boy arm of their Switch Online service. Donkey Kong Land is a bite-size version of the legendary platformer. The graphical style was a bit of a sludge green mess before the era of backlights, but on a modern handheld (or a 55 inch flatscreen) we’re not going to be able to blame our dozens of deaths on that anymore.

I’m highly susceptible to anything related to Donkey Kong Country (the original is the reason I started playing games in the first place), so I’ll probably check it out as a cozy security blanket during the winter months.

A very, very difficult security blanket.

As always, here is my wish list for Nintendo Switch Online. The only change since the previous update is I added Tony Hawk to the GBA section because I’ve never experienced any of the isometric renditions of that series and I’m painfully curious how they play.

I expect next week to be on the light side before ramping up one more time in early December. I’m still chipping away at my predictions for the Game Awards. I’m sorry to say it’s rapidly approaching novella length.

Until then, I hope you are enjoying some good food with some good people.
