Virtual Console Dreaming: November Donkey Kong Land 2 Update

Yesterday, while I was minding my own business and catching up on some cleaning, Nintendo announced that Donkey Kong Land 2 is available now on their Nintendo Switch Online service. Donkey Kong Land 2 is the scaled down rework of Donkey Kong Country 2 (one of the best 2D platformers ever made). It was my first Game Boy cartridge (I had a Play It Loud transparent model) and I have fond memories of playing it on the floor, sitting in the doorway to my room, because it was the perfect position for a sunbeam to slip through the blinds and light the dreary screen.

I can’t remember a precedent for Nintendo releasing a series onto their service in exactly this way. It might be wishful thinking, but it feels like they’re leading up to a reveal (we know Donkey Kong Country Returns is getting ported to the Switch on January 16th–but the Game Awards are in a couple weeks).

Definitely wishful thinking.

You should be used to what comes next by now. Here is my Switch Online wishlist. There have been no changes.
